Sometimes you feel trapped within the confines of your head and heart. You forget to appreciate and love yourself, keeping emotions so bottled up that when they eventually come out? you cannot contain it and it takes a colossal toll on you.
Dear Zindagi is a Hindi motion picture that follows Kiara a young cinematographer and her battle with abandonment issues and self-love.
The movie begins with Kiara and her life as a young, successful single girl in Mumbai. Her only dream is to be a successful filmmaker and find love. She constantly finds that she is breaking up with her boyfriends as soon as they start exhibiting signs of long term commitment.
She then travels back to her hometown of Goa and hears a mental health seminar and a specific doctor talking about acceptance of one’s self and how we as humans often find it difficult to accept our flaws and love ourselves.
Kiara hesitantly begins therapy with the Jug (Doctor) and finds herself divulging more than she bargained for. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and very relatable.
Kiara realises that she has abandonment issues from the past which don’t allow her to form and sustain romantic relationships. She has no issues with making friends but she doesn’t quite trust men when it comes to love. She’s constantly finding issues that aren’t there and nit picking.
Jug forces her to dig deeper and understand that it’s okay to feel these emotions but it’s also necessary to talk about them and accept them in order to be able to trust in life again. I’ll stop yapping here because I want you all to give this movie a watch.
Below I’ve listed a few quotes from the movie that have resonated with me and hopefully, some of them touch you as well xx
