Chicken Palau (Fijian Edition)

Dear Zindagi

Sometimes you feel trapped within the confines of your head and heart. You forget to appreciate and love yourself, keeping emotions so bottled up that when they eventually come out? you cannot contain it and it takes a colossal toll on you.

Dear Zindagi is a Hindi motion picture that follows Kiara a young cinematographer and her battle with abandonment issues and self-love.
The movie begins with Kiara and her life as a young, successful single girl in Mumbai. Her only dream is to be a successful filmmaker and find love. She constantly finds that she is breaking up with her boyfriends as soon as they start exhibiting signs of long term commitment.

She then travels back to her hometown of Goa and hears a mental health seminar and a specific doctor talking about acceptance of one’s self and how we as humans often find it difficult to accept our flaws and love ourselves.9b8fd8d0320a37fc27894b0928cd3652

Kiara hesitantly begins therapy with the Jug (Doctor) and finds herself divulging more than she bargained for. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and very relatable.
Kiara realises that she has abandonment issues from the past which don’t allow her to form and sustain romantic relationships. She has no issues with making friends but she doesn’t quite trust men when it comes to love. She’s constantly finding issues that aren’t there and nit picking. MV5BZWQzYWI3ZGMtYzgyYy00OWZkLWEwODYtNGNiMTZhODBkNzUyL2ltYWdlL2ltYWdlXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjY1MTg4Mzc@._V1_UY268_CR9,0,182,268_AL_

Jug forces her to dig deeper and understand that it’s okay to feel these emotions but it’s also necessary to talk about them and accept them in order to be able to trust in life again. I’ll stop yapping here because I want you all to give this movie a watch.

Below I’ve listed a few quotes from the movie that have resonated with me and hopefully, some of them touch you as well xx

Beef Burgers and Sweet Corn

Josh and I really love burgers (probably one of our favorite foods) and mixing the flavors is just one of the ways I like experimenting with them. Don’t get me wrong we love a good ol greasy beef and cheese burger! the greasier the better, but sometimes we need to make sure that we are getting our greens in and find ways to enjoy it…. in a healthier way…

Hope you enjoy this recipe and I’ll be sure to post more weird and wacky burger recipes in the future.

  • Shredded lettuce

Sweet Corn

  • 2 x Sweet Corns on the Cob (Halved)

  1. Mix the beef, egg, flour and salt in a bowl and make two even balls.
  2. Heat a pan with oil on medium heat and cook your patty’s for 4-5 minutes on each side. This will give you a meium-rare patty. Cook for longer if you prefer it well done. Once cooked place the slices of cheese on the patty and close the lid so that the cheese can melt and settle on the patty.

  4. Toast your brioche buns in the oven or in a pan.
  5. Assemble your burger as so:

Shredded lettuce
Lid of bun

Sweet Corn:

  1. Place the corns on a sheet of tin foil.
  2. spread oil, salt, peri peri sauce and powder on the corn.
  3. Wrap the foil really tightly and grill on your stove.
  4. Rotate the corn every thirty seconds and cook for a total of 5-6 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with your burger

Scrumptious Eggs

I won’t lie, for years I was cooking eggs wrong. I would always overcook them and dry them out. I thought it was normal until i saw Gordon Ramseys version on youtube. I was hooked and needed to try this wonderful gooey goodness.

I hope you enjoy my version of Ramsey eggs and let me know if you try it 🙂

This recipe is for two adults

  • 5 free range eggs
  • 1 Tbsp of Greek yogurt
  • Chives, Cilantro, spring onions – a handful
  • salt and pepper to suit
  • 2 Tbsp butter – salted

  • in a bowl/jug mix the eggs, yogurt, herbs with the salt and pepper.
  • whisk it well with a fork.
  • heat your pan on medium heat and melt the butter.
  • pour the mixture into the pan and keep an eye on it.
  • grab a silicon spatula and mix the eggs consistently to avoid them being over cooked.
  • after 5 minutes of cooking take them off the heat (they should still be a bit gooey and not stiff. set aside for a minute whilst you plate up the rest of your breakfast.

Usually i serve this with fresh toasted bread, grilled tomatoes, avocado and strips of bacon. This dish is a family favorite in my house. hope you like it 🙂

Fire in you

“I love you because you have this fire in you that you don’t even recognize, but i do. You’re strong and you’re a survivor.”

I love a good friends to lovers story! this one didnt dissapoint and J Lynn once again proved that she is queen of angst and slow burning love novels.

Jillian – Has been in love with Brock since she was a small gal and has been pining over him for the last 7 years. Her existence for these last 7 years has been almost…robotic! She has a 9-5 job which she has no passion for and an obsession for hangbags.

Brock – Tried his hardest to see Jillian as a sister for most of his life as he didnt want to accept the fact that she was special to him… also, he was shit scared of her dad.

One horrible night led them apart and Brock has been trying to get back into Jillians life ever since. Jillian tries to ignore his sudden appearance in her life but is still tormented by her love for him and that fateful night that changed every thing.

The fire in you is the sixth book in J. Lynn’s “wait for you series” and doesn’t disspoint! I however can only give it 3/5 stars as it was good but not great. Lynn dabbled with the angst factor brilliantly in the beginning but it really died down half way through the book and I found myself skimming through from 70% and onwards. Fab chill down or holiday read. Pick this one up if you love romance and friends to lovers stories xx
